PLEN Scholarship Fund

What PLEN funds: The PLEN Scholarship Fund will assist students in funding a portion and/or all of the program and registration fees associated with attending the seminar.

What students fund: Student(s) awarded any level of scholarship will be responsible for any remaining dues for program and registration fees not covered by the scholarship award.

Recommended Qualifications: Currently enrolled undergraduate women and marginalized gender groups, but current students and recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Due: On a rolling basis. Scholarship applications have differing deadlines dependent on the scholarship chosen. See specified seminar page for deadline.

PLEN General scholarship

The PLEN scholarship Fund will assist students in funding a portion and/or all of the program and registration fees associated with attending the seminar. Student(s) awarded any level of scholarship will be responsible for funding their own transportation, meals and any remaining dues for program and registration fees not covered by the scholarship award. Preference will be given to currently enrolled undergraduate women and students a part of marginalized gender groups, but current students and recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Ellie Shaw Scholarship

The Ellie Shaw Scholarship aims to fulfill PLEN’s mission to promote diverse, inclusive leadership in policy making. The scholarship is open to all students, with strong preference given to students attending PLEN seminars from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. To apply, please indicate your interest on the general application form.

PJ edington Scholarship

The PJ Edington Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 by Board Member Meredith Singer
to honor the memory of her friend and colleague, PJ Edington, who was a long-time advocate for women in federal policy and public office. The PJ Edington Scholarship Fund provides young women who exemplify PJ’s commitment to women’s leadership in public policy with scholarships so they may attend PLEN seminars. The PJ Edington Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of personal donor contributions.

CareerLife Directions Scholarship

The CareerLife Directions Scholarship aims to fulfill PLEN’s mission to prepare women for leadership in the public policy arena. The scholarship is open to all students, with strong preference given to students attending PLEN seminars from Augustana College or other ELCA affiliated Lutheran colleges and universities. This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of CareerLife Directions LLC and Shelby Olson, Principal.

  • Writing a proposal for funding. A proposal is a brief statement expressing your interest in the PLEN program you wish to attend, and an integral part of applying for funding through your school. It is also important to know how to “pitch” a Funding Proposal to a potential sponsor.
  • PLEN alumni have also used online crowdfunding tools ("friend-raisers") such as:
