PLEN Announces Discussions with Women Leaders on Capitol Hill and in Energy Policy
As part of the Leadership Connection Series, PLEN is bringing college women and women leaders in Washington, D.C. to discuss staff diversity on Capitol Hill and women’s leadership in energy policy
WASHINGTON, DC, December 20, 2018 - In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, PLEN has launched the Leadership Connection Series to feature women leaders who have led policy change in some of our country’s most critical policy debates. The panel series is an opportunity for women leaders in Washington, D.C. to connect with the motivated young women who attend PLEN’s programs throughout the school year.
Each year, for the past forty years, hundreds of college women visit D.C. from schools across the country. PLEN women are leaders on their campuses and have gone on to become top policy leaders in government, nonprofits and private companies. Through content rich seminars, networking receptions and policy discussions, PLEN women return to campus with the confidence, leadership skills and connections they need to succeed.
The next panel in the Series will be held on January 7, 2019 in conjunction with the Women in Public Policy seminar and is entitled Women Transforming Capitol Hill. The panel will highlight the lack of diversity among staff on Capitol Hill and the women leaders who are working to change that. “We are excited about the diversity in leadership the midterm elections brought,” says PLEN Executive Director, Sarah Bruno, “We are also excited at what this diverse group of leaders means for the young women who are ready to launch their career on the Hill.”
The panel will be moderated by Meaghan Lynch (Communications Director, Representative Butterfield [NC-01] and Co-Founder of the Black Women’s Congressional Alliance.) Other speakers include Audrey Henson (CEO, College to Congress) and Jennifer DeCasper (Chief of Staff, Senator Tim Scott [R-SC.])
The following week, as part of the Women in STEM Policy seminar, PLEN will hold a panel entitled Women Powering the Future. In 1979, the first year of PLEN programming, the organization held a summit on the campus of Wells College in Aurora, NY entitled Energy Policy: What Can Women Do? This historic event will serve as the basis for a discussion on women’s leadership in the energy sector in present day: how far have we come since that summit in 1979, and what still needs to be done to support women leaders? This panel will be held on January 17, 2019 and will feature Janine Finnell (Executive Director, Leaders in Energy) as the moderator and Tara Anderson (Director, External Mobilization, American Petroleum Institute); Erica Dahl (Vice President, Public Policy and Government Affairs, Vivint Solar); Nandini Mouli (President, Association of Energy Engineers); and Whitney Muse (Senior Consultant, Deloitte) as speakers.
