Women & Public Policy Tracks
Here’s more on the policy tracks that will be offered during the Women & Public Policy Seminar! On two days during the Seminar you will choose two of the four policy tracks below to focus on:
Finance Policy
According to the White House Women in America Report, only 14 percent of those working in management, business, and finance jobs are women. Through the Finance Policy track, women professionals will help you discover how finance and business are regulated, how programs and initiatives are funded and the role of the global economy.
You will hear from women CEOs, economists, lobbyists, Executive Branch workers, and others who all influence financial policy on a regular basis.
Last year’s speakers were from the FDIC, American Express, World Bank, and the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.
Sustainability Policy
Through the Sustainability track, we will feature women leaders working in Washington on environmental issues. They will share their expertise and experience in the field of environmental policy and their professional experiences while working in the field.
Students will learn about a range of policy issues including climate change, energy, air quality, wildlife preservation and more, and meet many of the major players to hear firsthand about the environmental policy issues they care about.
Last year’s speakers were from EPA, Sierra Club, Edison Electric Institute, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Environmental Integrity Project.
Education Policy
Discuss what education initiatives are important to the current Administration and hear from prominent women leaders of the many organizations that are shaping education policy everyday.
Last year’s speakers were from District of Columbia Public Schools, Falls Church School Board, the U.S. Department of Education, Teach for America, and more!
Healthcare Policy (new!)
Explore topics related to U.S. healthcare policies, including the Affordable Care Act and other federal healthcare programs, women’s health and the role of insurance companies.
You will hear from the key players on both sides of the healthcare reform debate, including women Capitol Hill staffers, women working in nonprofit and advocacy organizations shaping healthcare policy, and women working in the for-profit healthcare industry.
Invited speakers are from the Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor, National Women’s Law Center, the Brookings Institute, and more!
