PLEN on Your Campus
Share the spirit of PLEN with other students, faculty and women leaders in your community and on your college campus!
Get your PLEN experience published!
- Submitting a letter-to-the-editor or opinion-editorial (op-ed) to your local or university newspaper can be a powerful way to share your PLEN experience, educate your community and raise awareness of the need for women in the policy-making process. Network with a well-known professor, the head of your department or another community figure and increase you chances of being published by having them co-sign your piece!
Talk to your fellow students.
- Now that you have completed a PLEN program, you are the best publicist for PLEN on your campus! Help other young women gain leadership skills by spreading the word about PLEN’s programs to your friends and colleagues. PLEN’s six annual programs offer students the opportunity to come to Washington for a week, weekend or entire semester, so there is a program to meet every student’s needs.
Become a mentor.
- There are few things greater than being able to share your hard-earned knowledge and insight with someone else. PLEN speakers donate their time and energy to PLEN students year after year for this reason. Reaching out to other students is truly rewarding and fulfilling. Never underestimate your ability to help someone else discover a career interest or open a networking door.
Host a networking event.
- Organizing a speakers’ panel is an excellent opportunity to meet women working in public policy locally and network with other women on your campus. Reach out to your major department, women’s center or career center to co-sponsor the event to gain access to school space or funding. Pick a topic that you find interesting and then invite women working in your community on these issues to speak or attend.
